North West Mounted Police spur question

upnorth

New member
Hi all. In my first season of detecting with my ACE, I found some super great North West Mounted Police relics up here in Canada, while field hunting. This winter with down time, I've been wondering what I missed by notching out iron. There are A LOT of iron signals in that field and I may just go all metal next year to see the missed stuff. Does anyone know what military spurs were usually made from in the1870's - 1880's? I've seen pics and the metal is a silverish possibly light brass shade, dunno, hard to say. Were they commonly made of iron? Brass?
