The Clay County Board of County Commissioners here in North Florida has scheduled a meeting on September 8Th at 2 PM in Green Cove Springs. This meeting is to propose a ban on all metal detecting in Clay County. Anyone that can attend this meeting and voice their concern is welcome.

The BCC meets at 2:00 on Sept 8th in Green Cove Springs on the 4th floor of the Admin building which is just south of the new courthouse (it is a red brick building, 4 stories high).

I can't believe it. Some old fuddy duddies got nothing else better to do than harass MDer's. Especially if it is a beach town. no grass plugs to cut, just sand sand and more sand.Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!

The meeting was held today regarding the proposed metal detecting ban here in Clay County, Florida. The Commissioners came through with a resolution that works for all of us. We can't metal detect in burial sites, cemeteries or sites that are on the Historical Register. The issue with disturbing vegetation was resolved by including the word "permanent" damage. The ilustration was made about people using a golf club on a County golf course. When they swing the club they disturb the vegetation but it's not permanent. The same applie to us when we try to recover a coin.
Thanks to everyone for all the emails. The Commisioners made a comment to me after the meeting, "maybe we will stop receiving emails from metal detecting people accros the country".

I sent them a really long email describing just what we do and how we do it and how many of us visit Florida to vacation and that part of our vacation fun was metal detecting, but I didn't use any run on sentences like this one! Sounds like their resolution is just common sense, so congratulations. Onus
