Later this month I'm heading to North Carolina and will have the opportunity to detect some ocean beaches. I have both the Tiger Shark and Vaquero and will be detecting dry and wet sand. Can I get people's opinion on what detector I should take with me. I will only have room for one of them in the car and I'm perplex on which on. Thanks
I have both. Either one will do you OK. The Tiger has the salt mode. Not that great. If you ground balance on the wet sand, you will be OK. Just don't get it into the surf. It will false right away. The Vaquero will be OK too. The only problem with the V. is with the salty air and spray that you don't notice can get into your Vs electronics. That could be very bad in a few months. It will carode every thing inside. NOT GOOD> The Tiger can be washed off with out any damage. Use soap and water to clean it up good after each use. You could try to remove the rubber seal on the battery door. Clean in fresh water and put on new dielectric greese. Only enough to make it shiny. Not very much. I would use the Tiger. I know it is a little more weight. But nothing to worry about. I hope I helped a little.... KEN
I have used both at the beaches in the Carolinas. If you are not going to be in the surf I would suggest the Vaquero. Just go by Dollar General and get a pack of cheap plastic bath caps. They will cover the unit with a twist and rubber band at the bottom and can still work the controls fine. I found the V to get better depth than the Tiger and if you are going to search long hours you will wish you had the V because the weight of the Tiger or the hassle of body mounting it. Just my opinion. Good Luck, Chuck
