Well I went out this afternoon for an hour or so and the Etrac will turn on and run for a little bit but when I go to pick it up after digging a signal. It will shut down completely.I'll bet it shut itself off atleast 6 times. Now I have about 16 hrs on it ( about 2hrs at a time) since I got it and this is the first problem I've had.Kinda makes me wonder if the first owner new it was starting to act up and got rid of it before it really crashed.(Used may not allways be better) Has anyone heard if Minelab repair is up and running in Chicago yet? All conections are tight.Battery is fully charged. The only thing I can think of is to unhook the probe and maybe try a differant loop.Other than shuting down it works fine. Has anyone had there Etrac do this before. Grumpy

Sounds like a battery connection issue, It happened with the SE sometimes. My friends SE will do it with my battery pack but not his. The only thing I can think to fix it is if you can reach in and pull the connector a touch so that it makes a better connection to the battery pack. I have never done it but might work in theory.

On the battery itself, take a knife or something sharp and scratch the battery's terminals to make better contact with the springs inside the battery compartment. I have a similar intermittent problem with my SE. It started 3 years ago when my machine was new. Sometimes when I pick it up after I dig a signal, it will automatically go into a 'noise cancel' routine. I hate to wait the 30-45 seconds for the noise cancel to quit, so I just turn off the machine and turn it back on. I remember after I cleaned(scratched up) the battery terminals, the problem went away. Fast forward to this past Monday.....my SE went into a noise cancel a couple of times on my 7 hour hunt.....I can live with that frequency, but I think I will check and clean my battery terminals again....

Had a similar problem - turned out to be the battery pack itself.

One of the metal connectors was not engaging properly. When I changed to a different battery pack, I never had the problem again.

Same thing happened to mine. Started initially to be a very rare occurence which i put up with, then the frequency increased to the point it was impossible to use because it kept shutting down. I sent it back to Minelab and they reported they could not duplicate the problem but they did change out some of the parts and it came back fine with no problem since. Send it back for repair.

I do believe that the Chicago repair facility is open. I just sent mine there to get repaired, it is in Downers Grove.

DO A HARD RESET,,, REMOVE BATTERY,,, LET IT SIT FOR A NIGHHT... ,,, MAYBE IT JUST NEEDS THAT,, IF THAT DONT WORK,,, SCREAM AT IT,,, THAT SHOULD DO IT,,,
