Noobie with a gold detector ?

Hi there, Long time lurker, first time posting. I am traveling out West this Summer from Michigan and would like some advice. We will be traveling thru the Black Hills area and then down to Colorado to the Creed area in SW Colorado. I currently have a Tesoro Eldorado, and would like to pick up a machine that is better for gold. I dont want to spend a ton of money and have been looking at the Fisher Gold Bug (current model) that is currently $384..is there anything else that I should be looking at? TIA, Steve

It might be worth it! Others can chime in here...

A Gold Bug Pro would be a better choice. Another excellent choice is a Teknetics T2 Classic. These have been marked down to $499 and a forum sponsor dealer can do a bit better than that probably. It's an awesome gold and relic detector. Google "teknetics T2 for gold" for lots of reviews and comments.

Hey Fishbonze, what part of Michigan are you from?

I'm up by T.C.

Tom

Thanks Rick I will! I'm now starting to think maybe I should let my Eldorado go and use the money towards a new detector that can do most things well, gold, coins, relics..if that exists lol

Right now, you can get the T2 direct from the factory for about $425 - from a cooperative dealer for about the same amount perhaps.

Are you the restaurant guy? If so maybe I can contact you about the T2 - you're too "young" on the forum to PM.

Tesoro LST is a great unit for just about any situation and versatility is the mandate BUT I never leave home without my great ol'nugget slayer GB2-John

I suspect there's some misinformation about the T2 pricing. In general, if you order factory direct, you pay MSRP. It would be unusual for the factory to be competing with dealers on discounting.

Info.. Of what I understand
The higher the KHz the smaller gold items it can find ..
The lower the KHz is more for the silver Items ..

So .. It depends on If you want a true Gold machine or a all around machine / detector ..

My chose would be a ...
Garrett AT Gold ... Multi purpose at 18 KHz
Minelab X-Terra 705 ... With 3 frequency coils 18.5, 7.5, and the 3 KHz

Thanks Tom, I just might do that, I'm going to do some more research, but I have heard great things about the G2

Fishbonze, the G2 is a great machine. The F19 that I have is the same spec wise and it would be the last detector I would sell from the ones that I have. Tom is a great guy as well.

You could just go with a tiny sniper coil. Save some money too! You already have a machine which can be programmed by the user to get maximum performance. You coild probably do very well going to a smaller coil and get those tiny and hopefully larger nuggets. Good luck with whatever you decide. :)

Save your money. If you can't find it with that Eldorado, you probably can't find it with any machine.... the extra cash will make the trip way more cool.

Hey fishbonez you're just south of me I'm in Clinton township!!!!
If you ever wanna go for a hunt and try out anything I have let me know!!!

Haha herb. Yeah you have a point.
But there are some specially made for gold, however ones like the lobo supertrac are more of an all metal kind of hunt.
I haven't had any "gold" detectors but a gent here posts alot about his luck with the racer 2 and gold racer in the makro forum. I believe he uses a nokta too....
