I recently purchased a go find for my 5 year old son (it is going to be his Christmas present). I took it out to learn how to use it so I will be able to help him with it on christmas morning. Well, needless to say I was hooked instantly. Recovered about a dozen targets within the first 40 minutes, including $.61 in clad. I started researching MD's and decided I wanted the 705. The wifey gave me the OK and I should have one in my hands in about a week. I have a friend at work that runs a 705 who is willing to help me with the learning curve but I would appreciate any advice from some experienced users for a noob just starting out. I have never metal detected before but know I have found a hobby I will get years of enjoyment out of. Thanks in advance for any advice/tips you may have.

Best advice that I can give any new user, is to check out the FAQFAQ pinned thread at the top of the page in this forum, and read everything that your brain can absorb.
The most important link on that page is the one to Randy's FREE e-book. Go to the Minelab website and sign up. It's free and obligates you to nothing. Then go to the "MEMBERS" area and download Randy Horton's "Understanding Your Xterra". Read it....twice, then go hunt, and when you get home read it again.
If you have any questions beyond that, just post 'em up and we'll try to help you out.

Welcome. You have a good detector. And yes is is addictive. I would read the online manual and the FAQ FAQ post at top of page.
