Noob coil question

Radio

New member
I was reading on Tesoro's sight about coils. I see on the Vaquero they say it has a 9x8 Monolithic Coil and the coil is in the Delta family of coils. Then when I read their description on the types of coils it does not seem to fit. On the stock Vaquero coil you can see where the loops are at in the housing. This does not look anything like a Delta or a Double -D. To me it looks to be more laid out like a concentric coil except it is oval and not round.

Can someone explain a little about coils to me?

It is concentric. I don't think Delta means DD. If it does then the Delta is a misprint.

its a concentric ,

Copied and pasted from Tesoro's web site regarding coils:

Coil Family

It is very important that you select an accessory coil that is compatible with your detector. Our coils are divided into two series, the Delta and Epsilon. The Delta coils have 4-pin connectors; they are, also called H.O.T. (High Output Technology) coils. The Epsilon coils have 5-pin connectors and are designed for

When they say it is in the Delta family, how is that different from other coils?

The wiring is different, connector pins are different.
The difference in the two groups isn't "Concentric" vs "Widescan" each group has both Widescan and Concentric within that group.

Widescan = DD

Delta is the four pin plug on the end of the coil wire that plugs into your detector. Epsilon is a five pin plug that is used on Tesoro

We are talking about the connector. That is too simple, I was looking past that for something more technical LOL. (I am slow but I get it)

Well, the plugs are a common way to identify them but you can't just re-wire them to work on the other group either, they have differences in there circuitry.

Also, there is an older four pin coil that are male pinned for the early Lobo's that are not compatible with the four pin Delta group.
