Non White's User Asking A Question.

I have been a brand X user for many, many years and would like to try something different. I met two gentlemen, one had a 6000 XL Pro and the other an XLT. I explained what I was looking for and each said their own fit the bill. I thanked them and left.

There both probably right, so I will ask, it not these two machines, which model should I look at....Open field hunting with no obstructions, 8 to 10 inch coil, just a machine where I can air it out and walk. No double checking signals, just dig any signal. Not interested in smaller coils, soil neutral to moderate, trash so-so, pack a lunch, grab the dog and be by myself for 4-5-6 hours...

MXT PRO would be a good choice.
Easy to set up and hardly any learning curve .

If you're looking at current whites models, the M6.
If you want to look at used discontinued models, Classic ID or IDX Pro for metered machine, Classic 3 for non-metered machine.

Honestly it really just depends on if you're a knob or button person. If you like turning knobs then the 6000 XL Pro. If you prefer pushing buttons then go with the XLT. I believe they both share basically the same insides. Personally I like the XLT.

I'm with the choices of the MXT Pro and the older XLT. The XLT is just plain stable and smooth to operate, has the main important adjustments and needs very little tweaking out of the box to get better than respectable performance. (You'd have to buy used with this one, but....lots are out there.)

ALL around best choice is a slam dunk for the MXT Pro however. Here you have a machine family that is way beyond having to prove itself, probably has garnered the biggest following of ANY machine in an industry, and.....has the new added features of Tone ID, Backlight, and this "Ground Grab" feature. (People who have been using this heavily are beside themselves with appreciation of this one feature alone.) Plenty of decent choices but...this machine is tops and it's fan base is growing fast fast fast.

A lot depends on your wallet and personal preferences so would advise you to visit your Whites dealer for a look-see and demo as Whites makes many models designed for a newbie or oldbie.
In other words what works for one forum member may not be your cup of tea...I prefer an XLT myself but an argument could be given by another forum member that does well with the 6000 SL pro or any other Whites unit. Might add service after the sale is top notch so that surely is a plus.

I will expand on my suggestions and why I didn't suggest other machines.

An XLT, 6000xl pro would do just fine here, so would an IDX Pro.
The XLT and 6000xl pro are fast sweep machines and can cover a lot of ground very quick.
I didn't suggest the XLT because it sounds like you may want more of a turn on and go machine, which the XLT, once you figure it out and get it set, can be, but you have to learn it first. The XLpro is much more of a Turn on and go machine.
The M6 is a great machine with good target seperation when you need it and is a true turn on and go machine. No fuss.
I didn't suggest the MXT pro as it is more expensive than the M6 and the MXTpro seems to be overkill for what you want to do. You didn't mention Prospecting. I just feel the M6 fits the bill better at less cost.

Any metered machine can be treated as a non-metered machine, but you pretty much find yourself looking at the meter. Which is why I suggested the IDX Pro as it has a meter, but less information and to me you spend less time making the decision to dig based on what you see on the meter.
The IDX pro has great target seperation, turn on and go, and is a very enjoyable machine to use.
I also suggested the Classic 3 as it is a non-metered machine so this is truely a dig all signal machine. No meter to complicate things.

M6:clap:

I think you just can't beat the XLT by much if any.
The more I use my XLT, the more sure I become as to what I'm digging. I'm truly amazed every time I take it out.
