Non-MD related question. How long have marching bands been playing at high school football games?

The reason I am asking is, last Friday night the high school football coach told the marching band not to play when his team is moving the ball. He said they were distracted.

Could it be because they were over 30 points behind at the time and the band was the closest thing, so he took it out on them?

This football team is a disgrace, I think they have lost the last 3 games by a big margin.

My daughter in in the marching band and they work their butts off. I dropped her off at school this AM at 6:45 for jazz band then she will have a full day of school and then marching band practise till 9:30 tonight.

Why should these kid's work so hard and then have some football coach cut down on their playing time? (they are really good)

I am just getting my ammo ready now to go to the principle. I am on the band board and not sure if any of the other board members have heard about this yet. Our next meeting is in two weeks, which is too far away.

I guess the band teacher is going along with it, this is only his third year teaching and probably is intimidated by the coaches. He runs the band like a coach (more like a DI) maybe there is some kind of pecking order among the male instructors at this school.

OK rant is over.

I was in band and at games when we were in possession of the ball we were NOT to play from huddle until end of play. This was late 70's to early 80's in SoCal. I don't know how much of it was a goofy SoCal thing or if it is still done this way today.

I never played but think how quite people are when a Golf player is getting ready to smack the white ball--Come to think of it does any one play with off White balls--If I played I would want to use a Hunter Orange Ball so I could find it in the Ruff better!
