Nokta pinpointer issues

I have a love hate relationship with this pinpointer.

Everything worked perfectly when I first got it. I changed batteries over 20 times, and loved the operation and fact I could keep it on while coin hunting, without it falsing, even in its holder! About six months in, it developed a rattle inside the probe and eventually stopped working (a part came loose I was told).

Sent it back and received a new one in the mail. Worked great until I changed batteries for the first time. It stopped making sounds, but would still vibrate, then quickly stopped working altogether. Sent that one back, a small tab on the screw-in top had broken (it never seemed to seat properly, like the previous one). they tested the new replacement probe for functionality and mailed me a new one.

Everything worked great until I had to change batteries. The top on this unit seated with ease, but when I tried to turn it on, nothing happened, no sound no vibration. I checked to see if any tabs had broke, but it looked fine. I screwed the top back on, tried turning it on again, but same result. For some reason I tried pressing both buttons at once, and was rewarded with a vibration, but no sound. I then tried to turn it off(the regular way), but no luck. I held down both buttons again, and was rewarded with a couple of muffled beeps as the unit shut down. It makes no sound other than at shut down and I've tried every button combo there is.

I've decided to just live with vibrate only and the extra hoops I have to jump through, rather than sending it back. I've spent over $20 on shipping and they've sent me three already and I don't wont to keep bothering them. I absolutely loved the first unit I had, it outperformed the carrot every time.

Has anyone else experienced anything like me? Still love the brand and am waiting/hoping for the multi-kruzer to get packaged with a free pin pointer.

Talk about being unlucky ! I have a Makro pinpointer and it's the only one I have been using for the last 3 years. It will false on occasion either when the battery is low or when the contacts are dirty (very rarely). I've dunked it in water on several occasions, the speaker on it has been in wet mud often and it keeps working without fail.

Seems to me you shouldn't have to pay for shipping if its under warranty. Maybe the fourth one will be fine... To me even if your pointer works at the moment, you are taking your chances if you keep it in the sense that resale value will plummet if you decide to sell a defective unit one day. You will essentially end up selling it for parts.

Galwayboy, sorry to hear about those issues sure frustrating for sure.
You said it out performed the carrot; now that is impressive.

I started the return process almost two years ago, so its been awhile since I first bought it. It still vibrates, so much better than not using one.

Versus the carrot, I got a bit more depth and it never falsed no matter which way I carried it and love the tip covers. Was hoping someone from Nokta/Makro or someone on the forum had run across the same issues that I've had.

Hello there...a customer can never ''bother'' us... A customer has every right to have a working product in their hand at least during the warranty period. Personally, this is how I see it: Somebody who bought our product is a ''purchaser'', somebody who bought our product and who is using it and is happy with it is a ''customer''. We do not want one time purcahsers but customers for life... I do not know why you went thru so much trouble but contact me at dilek@noktadetectors.com and I will try to resolve the issue for you.

This^ is why I am buying a Makro Multi Kruzer. Sure, the machine itself seems like it will be amazing - but it's the outstanding customer service that seals the deal for me.

Got a new pinpointer from Turkey over the weekend. Wasn't expecting that. Thanks Nokta/Makro!

I lurk on this forum. I love Minelab. But I now have 2 Makro Racers and 2 Makro pinpointers. They are great for the NJ beaches, Easy to use, reliable and easy to swing. I have NOT heard one bad thing about Makro. Everyone I know that I have contacted off line (many are members here) are effusive about Makro. Dilek et al have earned my respect. I will keep the Minelab Safari for now as I sentimentally love Minelab.... But Makro has just done an outstanding job. Please keep up the good work.
