Nokta Impact Screen

JEF

troll
I just got my Nokta Impact Friday, and I used it for about 2 hours on Saturday and for about 4 hours today. I noticed when I got home today that there are already several little scratches on the screen. I don't remember doing anything that would cause the screen to get scratched. The screen must scratch very easily. Other than that I really like it so far.

No scratches on mine. Like keeping my control box clean, so I keep the zippered environmental cover on.

Any dirt or sand acts like sandpaper that can create micro scratches in plastic. And when you least expect it.

One of the things I dislike about Nokta/Makro products. The screens are cheap. So are the screens of many other companies. One would think issues like ergonomics and screen durability would go into the manufacturing process. After all my hands stay surgically clean. Don't yours? Use a cover. Keep dirt from getting in the cover. Watch out when you spray bug spray. It will eat the screen.

I am going to get some screen protector film that is used for iphones and ipads, etc., and try cutting it to fit the screen on my Impact. At least that might keep it from getting scratched any worse than it already is.

It actually ships with a factory applied screen protector. Are you saying you removed that and the screen got scratched, or is it the factory screen protector that was scratched?

I'm not particularly a White's fan, but I like how on a lot of their machines the plastic screen cover can be replaced for something like $5 :)

I left the original screen protector on from the factory and I got my detector the first week when it became available and it still holding like new.

The plastic film that comes on the Impact is only to protect the screen during shipping. Mine had a little sticker on one side that said to "peel here" to remove it.

I went in to town today and purchased a package of 4 plastic screen protectors for smart phones. It was only $4.98. I measured the screen and cut one out and put it on. It worked great, and I have 3 more when this one starts getting worn out. You can just peel it off, and replace it with a new one. If anyone is interested in trying it, the measurements to cut it are 2 1/4" by 3 7/8". That will cover most of the screen except a little bit along the edge.

Hello all...just wanted to chime in here and make things a bit more clear for all.
Our devices ship with a screen protector.
In the past, the screen protectors were hard to be noticed. When the screen protector got scratched, customers would think that the screen was damaged.
So based on customer feedbacks, we decided to add a ''peel here'' text on the corner of the protector to make customers realize that there is actually a protective cover on the screen.
To remove it or not to remove it is totally up to the customer.

Now regarding the screens - there are a few types of screens that are used in detectors.
Softer membrane screens are harder to be scratched BUT has less visual quality… or harder polycarbonate screens that are relatively easier to be scratched BUT with high visual quality.
We prefer to use the second one to be able to provide the best vision for our customers in different environments and from different angles.

In addition, in case of impact, a membrane screen will break more easily and the actual display underneath may break as well versus our screens will not break easily with impact and if they do, the screen underneath will most likely be protected.

Hope this helps.

Have and and bought a few top brand name detectors with the soft membrane screen with a scratch, dent that you had to be careful not to damage.
Prefer the hard plastic like Nokta uses. You can polish polycarbonate scratches out if severe enough to warrant it.

When I received my Impact, the very thin plastic sheet that was on the screen was in terrible shape. It had scratches and scuffs all over it and the screen was not very clear with it on. I assumed it was just on there to protect the screen during shipping. The screen protectors that I purchased were a lot better. They were a lot clearer, and they are a thicker plastic, and not just a thin film. And at $4.98 for a package of 4, that works out to only about $1.25 each. So, I am glad that I removed the one that came on it and replaced it with the ones that I purchased.

I still have the clear stock protective film on my CoRe screen. It's starting to peel off by itself. I'm thinking about getting a GGS coated glass protective screen that would fit. These are mainly used to protect the LCD screens on expensive DSLR cameras.
