Nokta Fors Core questions

First post, new member!

I thought I would start off with a couple of general questions that I have not seen addressed during my lurking about.

1. I was wondering what is the size of the smaller handle lcd screen and the readout? For a point of reference, are the display numbers larger or smaller than the ATP TID numbers?

2. In my location, the ground is med-highish mineralized. ATP GB upper 70's to lower 80's, Minelab 705 high teens to lower 20's. Will the core be able to punch deeper than either of these machines in my soil? I don't think I've dug any coins, or coin size targets deeper than 5"- 6"... and I know that they are there, just that i'm not penetrating deep enough to sniff them out.

3. I've read that Nokta has changed out the rocker buttons on the side to membrane buttons, but every dealer site I have visited still shows the older version in their photos. Are they selling the newer version yet?

4. How does the core compare to either the ATP or the 705?

Thanks!

I have a CoRe unit. Never run a 705 or an AT Pro.

As far as the membrane switches, to my knowledge all new machines purchased come with the membrane switches, not the rocker switches.

As far as the CoRe performance. Super separation; especially with small coil. Digital readout is nice, ample, easy to read. CoRe unit is actually the best swinging machine I've swung to date. And I have or have owned White's V3i, Minelab etrac/CTX, Fisher F75, Makro Racer, XP Deus both 9 and 11" coils.

A very good hunting in iron/heavy nails detector and also modern trash. Audio is grand IMO in DI3 (3 tone).

Simple to operate and master quickly IMO. At least compared to many others.
Detector ID targets above average; especially for its price.
Detector handles mineralized soil above average.
Detectors depth- With stock coil ample, small coil well above average for it's size.
Detector can unlock sites and find the goodies; especially with small coil attached. Will hunt with small coil behind anything but maybe a Makro Racer with small coil IMO.
Detector for a VLF seems to handle beaches/ salt water beaches well from reports-I've not run mine in beach/salt water setting.
A very good arounder of a detector. Does most things well. Small coil combined with detector performance is where the machine stands tall above most others.
Just let someone laugh when you grab it out of your vehicle with the hockey puck of a coil and turn it loose on an old house site. They won''t laugh for long I promise you. Very eye opening to what it can do where other detectors seem to fail to pull the goods. And this is the gospel coming from me.

'Welcome' to the Findmall Forums, and especially welcome to the Nokta and Makro Detectors Forums, specifically.

There has been a lot posted in the short life-span of the Nokta and Makro Forums, so be sure to rear all the responses that might be associated with your questions. Okay, here we go ......

My FORS CoRe and both Racers are out in my vehicle on the back seat where they ride, day-and-night. It's slate and I need to get some rest before I head off to a VA medical appointment in the morning, then for the exciting part as I journey to an Eastern Oregon ghost town for a day-and-half. I am too tired to walk out there with a ruler to measure it, but I can assure you this:

a.. The Target ID numbers are large and very easy to view. Much larger then the AT Pro and many other better brand models. Also, the AT Pro has the gray scale background that makes the small VDI numbers a little more difficult for me to see.

b.. The numeric Target ID lights up when you get a visual target response, when you pinpoint, and when you access the automated or manual Ground Balance. By "lights-up" I don't mean only the number is readable, but the display backlight comes on with any active response mentioned.

Those Ground Phase readings are not highish at all, for those models referenced, but more mid-range read-outs.

As for target responsiveness and depth of detection, I have been more than satisfied with performance in both categories, and I have put them up against the AT Pro, MXT Pro, MX5, Omega, F75, T2 and several others. It took an above average detector to dazzle me as the Nokta FORS Coin & Relic did to move to my #1 All Purpose Detector spot. It took an equal amount of design effort and end performance for the co-company Makro to put out the Racer that met the match and now shares that #1 spot with the FORS.

I live and hunt in a lot of truly 'bad ground' country and many are heavily littered with iron trash ... These detectors I would use anywhere for any type of hunting I would enjoy, and get ample depth and performance in doing to.

Ask the Nokta Dealer specifically about the FORS CoRe they have in stock. The made the switch to the membrane switches a few months back and I'd guess they have the current units on-hand. So, just ask them.

Superior. To break that one word down, I will say it balances better, feels better, and is the better all-around performing detector. Especially if you blend the use of both the standard 7X11 DD, and the "you gotta have it" smaller coil.

Biased opinions count, I would hope.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies!

I have one more question concerning the "Ground Tracking" function. Is it similar to the GB auto-adjusting tracking feature of the 705?

Tracking is tracking. One brand/model will have their auto-tracking design at work while a different brand/model will also use their designed tracking circuitry. So, Yes, they are 'similar' in that they are both reading and adjusting as they track ground mineral changes during the search coil sweep.

On the other hand, NO, they might not be similar in how they track the ground mineral changes. Design engineers might use different ground mineral ranges in designing their tracking circuitry. Some might have a slower tracking update while others might use a faster updating speed. Some might have an inhibiting feature to delay or inhibit the tracking, and there would be other variables to consider that different manufacturers could incorporate in their auto-tracking circuitry.

All I can add is that I prefer the auto-tracking of the Nokta and Makro line, but use an automated GB or manual GB most often, not Auto-Track.
