Noise?

LiterBikeHunter

I seem to be experiencing a substantial amount of random noises while I'm out swinging. I though I may have my gain and or sensitivities turned up too high. I've tried backing the, both down to no avail. Could it be that the soil I'm hunting is simply highly mineralized?

Additionally, I find myself digging an "ok" signal that is at least repeatable only to find I can't get the tone to repeat once I've pulled the plug. Put the plug back and there it is. I scan both the hole and plug (all sides including the grassy one) but it won't sound again until I place the plug back in the hole.

Any suggestions or input?

Take your coil cover off and see if there is sand or something in it. Sometimes that will make noise. Good luck Flintstone

Except for sounding off on the plug, I would think EMI was the problem. There are a couple of places I hunt where the EMI is randomly terrible at certain times of the day. Sometimes I can ratchet up the sensitivity and gain....at other times I can hardly detect there.

Maybe a bad coil? Or possibly your machine isn't ground balancing correctly for some reason and needs a factory tune-up.

Try a different coil if you have access to one and see if that one acts the same way.

When you are having this problem try going to a different area and see if the problem persists.

It is possible that there really is something tiny and shallow in the plug. Depending on what it is made of some tiny bits of metal can sound bigger and deeper than they are. Small pieces of corroded nails, bobby pins, etc are really hard to see and find.....they look just like the dirt.

Good luck. Let us know what you figure out.
