Noise Limitation on ear phones

New member
I am coming around to the use of earphones again. I wrecked my hearing with loud blasts from my Fishers, and cheap head phones... Talked to Dave about Killer B's that he had and the noise limiter switch,...When you use the limiter, apparently lowers the level across the whole sound range. He uses his by adjusting the sound level ,and can get the faint sounds, and the loud ones are not that bad..Does not use the limiter..I have a Tesoro Vaquero. Is there any set of head phones that will pick up a faint sound, and limit the blasts to a non ear damaging level.. A couple of sharp hits and my day is over due to a severe headache ..I know there are good earphones out there, but can only spring for one regardless of new or used. Thanks very much for your help,,I am getting ready for Spring ,and phones are the next item on the list..Cordially Nad

I wish I could give you some solid info. I've had a few unpleasant blasts myself, especially from the Tesoros that give a long tone on start up as the battery check. Not fun, but hasn't caused me the problems you mention. None of the headphones I've used have a limiter so I can't comment on that. I will say though that I've learned to set my head phones at a bearable level before I start detecting and before I turn on the machines mentioned.

Gray Ghost Deep Woods have limiter in them. I've been using the GG's for years prob got 5 pair. NEVER broke a cord yet and I'm rough on them. I have a pair at home and will try to attach em to my tesoro tonight and see ho much it cuts the sound back.(startup) should be a good test. It has a switch to turn it on and off depending on which machine you are using. Cause some have vol control some don't.

ooops! Clicked post again!

My last outing using a Tesoro and my Sun Ray Pro Golds, I still have to turn down the volume even with the limiter kicked in.

My new Ratphones have a built in limiter, but allow you to easily hear even the softest of signals so far. I am really impressed with them and use them on my DFX.

Seem to cut the volume down to about1/3 or 1/2 still picked up light target responses without clipping the sound off. Still loud on a tesoro on startup-batt check. Sidewinder Umax. I'll try em on my ace 250 when I get it in.
