Noise Cancel

Is it best to noise cancel with sensitivity turned all the way down (manual or auto; sensitivity setting of 1) prior to running it up (optimizing) for peak depth performance? I've just been adjusting the sensitivity to max first, then noise cancelling. To "learn" reject/accept targets out in the field, however, I first run sensitivity down to the lowest setting of 1, noise cancel, then up it back to previous setting for detecting. Thanks in advance for all your help!

I try to do a 'noise cancel' everytime I make an adjustment to sensitivity or I if start seeing falsing or a lot of nulls.

I do the opposite. I crank the sense up to max manual then do a noise cancel. As you probably know the noise cancel will find the least noisy channel and then set the machine to use that channel for detecting. If you have the sense down real low then most of the channels will obviously be noise free when you do the noise cancel. The Explorer may then pick anyone of these noise free channels even though they may not be the best channel when you turn the sense back up again. But with the sense at max even though all the channels may have some noise the Explorer will select the channel with least noise to detect with. After noise cancelling I will turn down my sense though if I get any falsing.
