NOISE CANCEL

When you hit the noise cancel button on the exp. I hold my coil about waist high till the tones go away while the exp is doing its thing my friend said the coil should be on the ground> So who is right me or him thanks for the help.

Denny,
I do mine with the coil about 3 or 4 inches above the ground where there is no targets and hold the coil very still untill after the last beep.
I feel if it will pick up any stray RF signals it will try a differnt freq that is quiet.
I have seen some do it in the air while others are on the ground, dont know how much difference there is, but make sure there is no targets around and hold the coil still.

I sweep the ground in Pinpoint to make sure there are no targets then lay it flat to the ground and press the noise cancel button while leaving it motionless until the last beep.In my mind this is similar to Ground Balancing, if there are heavy minerals it seems it would cancel out those noises???

In my oppinion to do a proper noise cancel, you need to have the coil on the ground, and keep it completly still while it is running through its test, when the 11 channels are done scanning it will automatically choose the best channel for the area you are hunting, it is important not to have anything under the coil, (matal, trash, ect.) to do a proper noise cancel you need to do a sweep first to make sure the area is cleen from any target, cause the cancel will detect minerals in the ground, and any electrical static that might be in the air,(from power lines, ect.) to find the best channel that will block this interference out. if you happen to do a noise cancel over a coin, the explorer will find a channel that will best filter out this type of target. NOT TO COOL IF THAT HAPPENS..

I seem to remember reading a Minelab post/newsletter???? that said if there is an obvious visible source of interference, like maybe a transformer, or telephone pole box, etc...
You should raise the coil and aim it at the source and do the noise cancel that way.
Kinda like aiming to shoot at it <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
