Noise Band 1 or 2 & Why?

I've read that most use noise band 2 because it makes nickles read on the charts like the old Sovereigns. I also remember reading somewhere where somebody said they found noise band 2 was deeper than 1. Anybody have any further info on that? It would seem odd that noise band 2 would be deeper (if it is) than band 1. Wouldn't Minelab want to call it band 1 if it was? As it stands right now I always use band 2 unless I'm getting interference that can be cleaned up with band 1, but that's a very rare occasion.

So anybody know why some say band 2 is deeper? I remember reading that somewhere a while back in an old post. Anybody do any tests on this to decide that?

What makes The GT stand out for my beach hunting dream machine, is it's 99% immune from EMI, where my pass PI detectors (very bad EMI ) & some high end VLF detectors (mild EMI) where so noisy from EMI, they where useless. I never saw a performance difference from band one or band two on the GT though.

Its possible the mild frequency shift in band 2 could move it further away from EMI harmonics thereby improving performance.

As far as EMI and immunity, I haven't used a detector yet thats usable around a buried cable TV line.

My TDI (PI Machine) has been the best so far around power lines, but my Sov is pretty stable under all but the worst of them.

I've found too that my GT is just as good around EMI as other machines I've owned. No real problems there. It's rare but it does happen when hunting around some houses that I've played with noise band to try to get rid of some interference. I prefer to use band 2 just because I've read that it more closely matches the mid zone numbers like nickles to older Sovereigns. Using band 1 will change the numbers of the mid range targets some, like nickles. I forget but using band 1 either makes them read a little higher or lower than the old charts. I also remember reading a long time ago where somebody said they found band 2 was deeper too. Just wondering if anybody has heard that and whether there was some kind of testing done to determine that. Wouldn't it make more sense that band 1 would be the most optimum frequency shift for best operating depth if there is any change between them performance wise?

Like I said, haven't really had any EMI issues more so with my GT than any other machines I've owned. Handy tip...if you hunt next to a guy with an Etrac or Explorer stand next to them with your Sovereign on while they noise cancel. It will put them on a channel that doesn't give you as many issues with interference from them. I think there's an old reputation of the Sovereign having interference issues that dates back to some Sovereigns that didn't have any RF shielding in them. There was a run of them that didn't, and some guys were taking them apart and putting shielding inside grounded to the motherboards ground trace line in order to resolve that problem. I think that's were some are under the impression still to this day that the Sovereign has EMI issues.
