No VDI number hash mark in All Metals mode with Gold Bug?

Unknownroad

New member
Quick question, I am hunting beaches for gold jewelry but am new to detecting. I'm trying to get away from DISC mode to get the additional depth and sensitivity with All Metals mode. Is it normal with the Gold Bug for it not to indicate a VDI number in the top hash marks in All Metals mode for some targets? I will switch to DISC mode and get a clear VDI for said targets EVERY time, but when I switch back to AM mode, I get the beep but no VDI... This seems like it is happening to me for half of the targets I find, or sometimes I'll get one VDI indicator for every 10 sweeps...

Also, any other tips for using All Metals mode? DISC mode has just been so easy with it's clear tones, especially when separating and ID'ing multiple targets that are near to each other, versus the longer and less "clear" tone of AM mode...

Greetings Unknownroad,

I also had a struggle switching between DISC & All-Metal mode.

I found I had to tune out some of the noise when swinging in All Metals by adjusting the threshold to the 9:00 position. That allowed me to get the correct VDI sound and ID below the coil.

If your in a real trashy area it is hard to use All Metal until you can 'tune out' the unwanted audio.

Good Luck, Larry...

Thank you for the advice, Larry! I have been running max sensitivity and threshold at the 12:00 position, as that is right about where the humming silences. I'll try the threshold at 9:00. I assume you have found all-metals mode to be worth using unless in a very trashy site?

Yes, I do use All Metal where I can. But a lot of my hunting is city parks and schools and so I'm forced to use discrim.

I wish Fisher would of have setup the gold bug pro to show the the large ID number in All Metal like it does in discrim.

I believe the new F19 does but I'm not 100% sure on that. Larry...

The vdi number does NOT show in all metal But it should show a target blip right above the graph that YOU can interpet as the vdi number from.

All targets you "id" in am mode (the upper arc Marker) you can id in disc mode. In all metal mode the large numbers will show you the groundreadings.
