Haven't been hunting as much lately due to a few factors - but I did manage to get permission from another rental agency to hunt more houses in the area. Thursday night I went about a half mile down the street to hunt yet another c1950-era cottage. There must have been a detectorist that used to live there or previous owners added tons of fill dirt. In 2 hours I hunted the sidewalk strip and front yard of this house but was really surprised at the lack of signals in general. Switched back and forth between 8 and 12 kHz but one was about as noisy as the other...ended up finding 39 cents in clad but right at the end I got a whopper of a high tone, a "93" in 8 kHz not 3" from the driveway. Saw the glint of gold and for a brief moment I thought my goldless streak had ended, but then I remembered the VDI Turned out to be a .925 with a nice solitaire stone (probably zirconia I haven't tested it yet) and the gold plate was wearing off as I cleaned it up in the sink. Not a junker - it's still silver and has good eye appeal - so I'm pleased with this being the only good find on that hunt.
The large purple ring in the picture is a junker I found at the apartments, indicated at "80" in 8 kHz. Forgot to mention it at the time, but it's only barely noteworthy...
The small toe ring I found Friday night at the elementary school indicated at "88" in 12 kHz and was about 5" deep. It was a faint, repeatable high tone in an area I've found some Wheats before, so naturally it had to get dug! It's in perfect shape, not bent or crushed, and was glad to see "sterling" printed on the inside of the band, but kinda guessed that from the VDI.
May go back to the apartments tomorrow for a few hours and try to find those elusive silver coins - Last time I found 7 Wheats in 3 hours, so there's bound to be silver there as well!
