It's here....the most dreaded phenomenon of the north...."winter." It snowed all night, all day and this is my backyard. I can already hear my youngest daughter complaining about all the time she put into her Halloween costume, only to have it under a warm winter jacket.

Of course, I did see some kids on the way home from work today with toboggans tucked under their arms. That means that there is already some winter crops being planted.

I just can't fathom weather like that. As a native Californian, the coldest It's ever been around here is +24. That's rare. We do get some freezing each year and about 12-16 inches of rain average. Not to kick you while your down but detecting here looks to be almost year round.

It won't be long before we see the same thing here in Spokane. Why do you think I'm trying to get all the rings now??:clapping:

Okay, Im the only weirdo here, I guess. First, I really enjoy your winter pics, John. I think it's a lovely time of year. [attachment 39038 frosty.jpg]

Second, being from Minnesota stock, I know that there are other activities to enjoy in the winter.

Third, there is a silver lining to every cloud. I know at least one guy who wraps a hand warmer around his detectors control housing with a scarf... and heads out to the toboggan hills and parking lot snow dumps on a regular basis.

I think of warm beach's, gold rings, coins, holidays etc. It's a good coping mechanism. But I do get out and hunt during the winter. Lots of $$$ lost on toboggan hills.

This will be my first winter having a tector so I'll see how that goes. I've done quite a bit of geocaching in the winter and have used a pick and shovel to get to a few. Detecting should be the easy of the two. Bing, Bing, dig, dig, bingo....just white before the dirt.

Looks nasty. I hope we don't get any this year. Guess that kills the tecting for a day or two. You have my sympathy. :)

Yeah I remember California ( circa the early fifties ) when it was a paradise. When I first got there from the Midwest I thought I had died and gone to heaven. But sadly those California days are long gone. It is a cesspool of undulating humanity.

Hey John,
Do you ski? If not learn, it makes the winter just fly by, before you know it, it's SPRING AGAIN!!!!!
Your Friend,

Yeah we have one of the finest ski mountains around, 11,200 foot Mt. Hood. Course he could ski Mt. St. Helens but it might get a little hot and dusty. :)
