No miss this time ! MXT & 6 x 10 DD -unreal !

Took the MXT out for a few hours this aft/eve to give my new 6x10 DD a test drive. 21/2 hours in and all I had to show for it was $2.13 in clad but I was mainly just out to get a feel for the new coil. I found the clad at a local park and school play lot. I was still in the tanbark play lot and that's when it started. I first found 2 small sterling pendants. Shortly after that I finally got my first gold ring ! A small 14 k band.( that took 2 months ) I was content to start walking out soon after, so I was casually swinging the coil already very happy with my great find when I hit a quarter signal. I figured "why not" so I dug down 2" and out pops a very heavy silver band with the word "True" engraved around it 5 times. I no sooner stand back up and give my coil a couple of swings when I get a solid ,repeating 22 # on the VDI. I'd already dug probably 15-20 pulltabs but I figuredI the signal was good and I was hot so... .1" below the surface in the tanbark I pulled out a solid gold clip-on earring. It's 1" in dia.with a floral design. It also has 5 pearls and approx 50 small diamonds set in it ! I thought it was just costume jewelry at first but when I got it home and looked closer I realized it was real! I'm still in shock! I tried to upload some pics but it says they are too large so I guess they have to be "compressed" ? Any advice on how I can do that ? It was about to get dark so I had to go but I'm going to be back there at sunup to check the whole area for the other earring. Sorry to go on so long but I'm so antsy to check the area tomorrow I can't sleep. I'm stoked ! HH

That is a good days hunting in anyone's book........ Send yourself the pictures and Email will ask you if you want to resize the pictures. I choose the Medium size and save them when you get them back and those you can post. Lots of ways to do it, but that is the fastest and easiest for me.

What a great day! I bet you're hooked for sure now. What a wonderful story and thank you for posting and giving us people here with snow covered yards incentive. The way Larry said to do the pictures is the easiest. I came across this the other day and it might help to re-size photos and it looks pretty easy also. resize photos We would love to see some photos. Congrats to you! HH, Nancy

Here they are. Thanks a lot for all the info for resizing my pics. That link you provided me with Nancy works great. My camera is not very good ( the little $ I have to spend goes towards detector equip.) so I'm sorry about the picture quality. That's the earring in the middle with the heavy silver band on the left and the sm 14 K band on the right. The quarter is at the top for scale.I'll try to post a better one later along with a pic of my ring find from the day before. Gotta go now,the sun comes up out here in about an hour and a half and guess who's gonna be waiting at the schoolyard with an MXT....? BTW Nancy, I was already hooked cuz I love the hunt ( yea even on "bad" days ) but this is beyond anything I expected to find, especially this soon. I assume some of the old pro's want to strangle me but I have to give a lot of you credit for all of the info and expertise you unselfishly share. Any other new detectorists out there, read (& understand ) what these people are telling you and go out and put the effort in and I'm here to tell you that it WILL pay off! Thanks for the help & support. HH

That was fast Scott. The pictures are great. Thanks!

No, we're just tickled that you found some keepers and are getting out hunting. And as for the "OLD"...... :ranting::rofl:

Can't wait hear what you come home with today. HH, Nancy

but your great, refreshing attitude reminds others what this hobby is all about...having fun. Folks like you are what makes this a great forum. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas)

I'd say you gave the new coil a pretty good test. Most coils would probably have found the same targets, but it's no coincidence that so many of the users here leave the 6X10 on their machines most of the time.

Congratulations!!!!! Finding 5 jewelry items makes any hunt a great one. You have learned well and have every right to be proud of yourself. Thanks for the pictures.

Your good fortune makes us smile.

Thanks for all the support everyone, and Kelley (Texas), the feeling's mutual. Went back out to look for the other earring but I guess that one made it back home safe. First good target dug was a small silver pendant with a partial chain though. Ended up with $1.62 in clad and nine more pieces of jewelry. Only 1 is confirmed .925, 5 are definitely junk and I have no idea about the others. They're most likely junk but not to me. My daughter will love them when I send them to her. I was digging EVERY decent signal ( in my limited opinion ) in the foil/nickel, nickel/ring range. I did actually pull out some interesting if not valuable finds. Also dug up about a pound of foil 1/10th of a gram at a time ! JK I guess the detecting gods decided to mess with me today as I also dug up 3 washers and six other ring shaped objects which gave signals that had my heart pounding. I also found a 1965 quarter ( close but no silver cigar ), a 1960 nickel and another nickel at 7" which is my deepest nickel and maybe any coin yet. If the 6x10 does sacrifice some depth I have to believe it more than makes up for it by running so much smoother and stabler that I was running the sens.at +2 to wide open all day. BTW BarberBill, you're right that some of the finds could easily have been made with other coils but the gold band I found was only about 6-8" away from a steel support pole and 5" down. From my very limited experience I don't think I could have sniffed it out with my stock coil. I also made many of my clad finds in close proximity to the play structures as this place has apparently been hunted before. The silver band and the earring were both shallow and out in the open though...guess it was just my lucky day.
HH to everyone
Scott
