Up at 4 and out the door! Blowing rain and cold, put about 3 miles on the dry until predawn, with a little clad success, enough for a cup of coffee from the local Stop-n-Rob. Got creative and found a cut, lots of nails, sinkers, bottlecaps, rebar. Running Pro zero, 40 disc, iron audio off, sens two bars below full. Starting to be able to tell whats junk from the size and strength of the tone, although what I thought might be a bottle cap was a P and a Q in the same spot ...
Got in there with the Pro and started banging signals, hit the gold ring (2.7gr 14k)in the nickel tones and it took four scoops to get it up, got the other three silver 925 rings and a St. Christophers sterling medallion for a combined weight of 7.9gr...one penny is a 55 wheat. I was frozen and hurting bad but could not leave those signals, too many nickels! ...almost stayed in there too long, but up here when the sand moves, a fellow may only have one chance in 20 years to get the goods. Very overcast and stormy today, big surf with warnings out. I may warm up and go back out, sheesh what a glorious addiction!

:clapping: way to go mud!! What state are you from? I live in Georgia and you can water hunt here to late September then the water starts getting chilly.

I'm in Michigan, and the best time to hunt is Sept when the water is at its warmest. Then a fellow has to use waders and hunt until the ice gets too thick to punch through, usually Jan. I remember I had a decent November last year. Horray for Global warming!

Now that is an excellent and rewarding hunt, John. Have a couple of hot toddy's, warm up and hit the cut again. I know you can do it. Great hunting! HH jim tn

Wow, that's an impressive haul, Mud! Congratulations!! :beers:

Wore my Underarmour long johns, top, and hat and some shoes since theres lots of glass. Took my time, (3hrs) and got 3 more wheats, ring and medallion is junk, that heavy slug coin type thing is stamped with a bridge on one side and an old car on the other..I have no idea what it is. Anyway, I missed a lot of coins, but don't THINK I missed anything valuable, I was after any and all signals thinking gold chain. I'm gonna go check out another location tomorrow that has similarities to this one's location, hard to get to, and old water area...The Pro sure does pull good things out of a heavy iron matrix, I noticed on some targets the TID was way off, but the tones and audio were crisp enough to dig. I got some of these nickels today that were masked anywhere from the low 40's to the low 60's. Still heavy N cold wind. I sure took a chance yesterday being in there barefoot! You should have seen some of the glass shards and bottle bottoms coming up in the scoop! Damn, a fellow would not make it out of a place like this if he stepped on some of that, not easy anyway. Thanks friends for the kind and inspirational replies, and Good Luck to You all!

That a lot of digging in the water. Keep that up and a couple of golds and silvers will show up Good job. HH jim tn

Mud, congrats! I haven't had much of a career day yet ( at least I hope not. LOL)in metal detecting, but in the 13 years I had a boat, I can still vividly recall the days that motivated me to go out anytime I could. Nice finds, empty out that lake before it ices over. Artie

Mud Good job! you're getting purple (it's a Spanish saying, like a fat purple Cardinal well fed:rofl:) hit him hard and leave nothing in the lake.
