No IH's yet...what gives????

I've bitched and whined on the regular forum so now I'll do it here.
Where are all the IH's????
I've found enough Wheats to build a Battleship. The IH's ellude me. I have two in my colletion and have buried them and scanned them to get the sound and general target location so I'd know what they sound like. Have yet to find one.
GOLDDIGGER said he had a friend in Raleigh, NC 2 weeks ago and he found nothing. He thinks the soil is real bad here.
Has anyone had experience with an XS in the Raleigh, NC area and how did they do. I spend about 20 hrs a week detecting and am not finding much. I is VERY dry here but wasn't when I started in Late January. I wa, however in the DEPTHS of the "learning curve" and wasn't sure what was going on. I have more experience and am finding less...or at lest not enough more to say I've learned anything. I'm good at finding Memorials and other clad but the deep silver just isn't surfacing.
ANY THOUGHTS?????

Well one thing is for sure you cant find it where it aint.. If they are there you should find them.. indians mostly read aroundthe same area as zincs on the smart screen.. NC dirt really shouldnt be a problem.. I have hunted in the red dirt down oin VA and still got 8 inch deep minnies.. I would think you should be able to pick off an indian at 6 inches in that type soil if they are there.. by the way if thats the typ ground you are hunting, try running auto sens set around 22, that seemed to be the best setting for that red clay for me

steve,
it sounds like you may be getting frustrated & upset with the explorer, when it has little or nothing to do with the explorer..
and more with the sites you are hunting.. I.H.s
start mid 1800's to early 1900's so you need to be hunting OLD sites. Be patient... there not half as common as wheats, but you will eventually find them if your looking in the right places! By the way, you have a good chance of finding seateds in the same places as I.H.s & vice versa. good luck

Try the S..L..O..W..Sweep.
I mean slow. Stay in one area and make your sweep take 5 seconds to sweep one way.
I've been killing silver this summer in powder dry conditions with this method. 164 silver coins to date for the year using the slow method including 2 each of barber and seated dimes in one hole.
You have to hunt where the silver is but don't be afraid to go back to some old "hunted out spots" like schools and parks.
You wont believe what this machine can do if you give it a chance.
By the way, indians come in at a medium tone somewhere in the middle right of your screen.
Comit to one hour of the slow sweep and see if you don't find some keepers.
Good luck.

I have the same problem. Found about 75 wheats, quite a few early dates among them, but only 2 Indians!
I'm worse with quarters. I have nearly $70 in clad quarters, and not a silver quarter ever! I cannot fathom how I can dig over 250 quarters and not one of them made before 1965. I dig 6-7 inch wheats frequently, so surely a silver quarter within that depth should respond. Help?
The last IHC was minted in 1909 but surely they circulated for decades after that and only gradually disappeared from change. In the 1930's I bet 1 in 10 or more cents were Indians floating around. Does anybody know for sure?

With the S.L.O.W. method, do you recommend any particular sensitivity or discrimination settings?

I hunt many cellar holes, I might hunt 5 with no coins then hit a couple of IHs and at another find only a two cent piece?? Why? I don't know but You are going to find the most old coins by hunting sites where the older coins should be found. Is it fool proof.. No.. Also don't be so concerned about depth, I have found many many 1800s coins at 4 inches and less. In this hobby you have to be an eternal optomist and believe that your next seated is only the next beep away because some days it is! Going slow as stated by others is the very best advice but your site location is at least as important.

Iron mask at -6 and sens on 25 automatic.
You can null out signals by pushing the sens up too high and manual may be a bit too noisey to get used to.
Also make sure the variability is on max.
Try the slow method with these settings and see what happens.
Good luck.
