that's the way I feel this very minute.
I got out of the Air Force after 11 years honorable service being told that at age 55 I would start drawing a military retirement pension.
In the past (up til 1980) one had to put in 20 years to get a retirement from the military. During the late 70s early 80s we were told that the Air Force was top heavy in Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) ranks and to keep the younger Airmen in the military an offer was made to the NCOs.
I was then an NCO. I was told if I had more than 10 years but less than 20 I could draw a retirement at age 55 if I got out when I did and had an honorable discharge.
I met the requirements and got out. All these long years I have waited to start getting a retirement. I'm approaching 55 in just about a week so thought I'd better find out more.
After several phone calls and having my guts ripped out and the hopes of a retirement pulled out from under me, I will get nothing. I was lied to yet again - in the military by the military.
Not a lousy penny for 11 years of faithful and outstanding service to the United States Air Force.
I see people all around me who are retiring from jobs where they never spent day one in a uniform or put their life on the line in a combat zone. They worked the same civilian job for the past 20-30 years.
So if I feel a bit bitter and defiled when I say No Good Deed Goes Unpunished you now know why. I hadn't expected a lot to come in. A hundred maybe two hundred a month and now zero. I want so much to cry over this yet I know it solves nothing. It won't set the hands of time back. It won't change how much I will be getting. I feel like someone who has been violated with nothing one can do about it.
Still praying for others to have a Great CHRISTmas.
