No Gold Today but I did manage an Old Silver

The sun decided to shine this afternoon so I hit the surf for 2 hours which didn't produce more than a couple of dollars worth of clad, a brass hotel key fob and key and most importantly a Silver 1934 British Half Crown! It was a Bermudaful afternoon and I stayed warm by staying in the shallows instead of going deep.

British silver coins from 1919 to 1946 are .500 silver 1526 to 1919 they are sterling silver. I've only managed 1 pre1919 British silver, a 1894 Florin. I think it's time to hit the Mine again.

Cheers,

BDA

The Silver Florin from last week and the American Quarter are for size comparision only.

EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWW!!! I LIKE THAT COIN!! :super:

Fantastic coin with great detail. It couldn't have been sitting in the water too long. Nice find.

I dug it out of the rocks at the west end of my beach. It's a minefield of junk in there, mostly ferrous. It took a bit of cleaning up to be sure (initial thought it was a recent Bermuda 50 cent piece) but I'm definitely surprised that over 50 years in the ocean amongst the rocks didn't do more damage. My neighbour is an older Bermudian and says that those coins were rare by the 50's and with the coming of the Bermudian coinage in 1970 they were no longer legal tender here. I'd guess it was lost during the war years (WWII) and a half a crown was a good bit of money back in those days, possibly dropped by a rich tourist just before or after the war is also apossibility.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:
