on vacation last summer, south of clearwarter beach for a month, hunted every day for a couple of hours , dry sand wet sand in the water, found nothing of any value, using a sand shark. i am not new to metal detecting on land, i have a se pro
wondering if i am doing something wrong or just bad luck. yes i turned the switch on.

I think not being a local can really affect your finds, locals know when to hunt, where to hunt, what to look for and are setup to hunt that area, so the main thing is you were there and enjoyed. Something I always do when hunting a different beach, don't take my detector and watch the locals for a few days, there habits can teach you faster then you can learn just doing a few hours a day. I guess you would call it lurking the beach's, gathering information.

A little recon goes a long way. Don't get discouraged. When I first got started in this hobby in late 2007, I couldn't and still can't get out as much as I want to. I land hunted with minimum success and started water hunting in late November of 2012 and I've had some good success just in fresh water, but it's because I grew up in this area and know where all the popular swimming holes are located. If I went to a beach, except for PCB, Fl where I also lived a few years, I would have to do what old beechnut suggested and do a little recon. Good luck & happy hunting.
