the other day when I had my detector at the park I was checking where the old playground was and after 2 hours I had found 4 pennies, a kid about 10 years old came over and asked if he could help so I let him, the next good beep I let him dig, carefully of course, and he found a dime, I let him keep it since he dug it up, it wasn't an important dime or anything but still, he found more on his first beep then I did the whole time I was there.

I never hand over my detector. If they ask if they can help I say sure, just look around on the ground and you will be surprised what you find. A kid did that and he found a penny and he brought it over to me and I told him to keep it, because he found it. I also told him to save his coins and put them in a bank and before long he will have an investment.

I never let anyone else use my detector either but I will let them help dig, with my detector, coins, jewlery, bottle caps, pop tops and anything with silver like cigarette packs and gum wrappers give off the same signal so you don't know what it is until you find it.

That is very true! And don't knock you detector, whatever it is. Except in really trashy areas a "dig all signals" detector can be a huge advantage if you are willing to put in the effort to dig them. I love to see these Snowbirds go out and buy a fancy detector and then crank up the discrimination to avoid digging trash. They pass over all nickels, gold and most jewelry just so they won't have to dig pulltabs.

But just think how upset you might have been had the kid found a huge gold and diamond ring! And things like that do happen! I fully expect to see you post a nice piece of gold real soon!

Keep at it. With your perseverance you'll do well!
