Nearby is a little city block park with a club house built in 1924. I have found many silver coins and wheat pennies there over the years starting in the late sixties. Most were found with an Explorer II and a SE Pro. In the last six months I had found no silver coins. I an effort to find more silver I sold the SE and bought a Whites TDI, then Whites VX3, then a Garrett AT Pro and another Explorer II(defective pinpoint & returned). The only silver found was a Rosie with the AT Pro. Sold all but the AT Pro and bought the CTX 3030 doubting it could do better than the Explorer SE Pro had. I have had no experience with the E-trac but know the explorers well.
First hour hunt using a modification of Charles Upstate NY 's explorer settings on the CTX 3030, I dug three targets. First coin found was a 1944 wheat penny, second a square rusty nail and third my first Barber quarter. It was 9 inches deep, the length of the Garrett pinpointer, with iron nearby. You can see the butt of the pinpointer in the hole at surface level. The Barber was worn very thin with no date visible. I have no doubts now as to what this detector can do as I have covered this area with the Explorer many times.
