No depth on coins

DiggininPa

New member
I just got the coil replaced and Im still having problems finding any coins deeper then 5 inches. With the battery charged I have tryed all the programs with different settings and no luck. I have the 1.1 version on my Vision and have been thinking about sending it in to have all the new updates done including the v3i. I hunt with my friend who uses an E-trac and he has no problems finding the coins. I even check his signal before he digs and my VDI numbers jump all around and sometimes I cant even pick it up. Is there something else I can try before I send it in?

Best thing to do id dig around on the posts here for a bit. Kind of hard to help without knowing how your machine is adjusted and what kind of ground your in. What program are you using and what are your settings with it?

The next time your buddy finds a deep target ask him if you can play with it for and hour or two. Make adjustments one at a time, change your programs, frequencies, recovery rate, filters, swing speed until you get a solid audio and can't improve it any more. If you have a test garden at home, spend some time with it, it is time well spent. There is no substitution for experience and knowledge.

Make sure his multi-harmonics aren't causing your detector's VDI to 'jump around'.

Is your machine stable when away from other detectors?

TELL US WHAT YOUR SETTINGS ARE.

very good advice marshall. Also could be a simple case of emi. I hunted a old campground one saturday between rains and found three indian heads and a v nickel in just a hour and a half. The next day I went to the same campground with the same settings and could not get the detector to settle down to save my a**. wheres tech. support when you need them.

Larry, why can't this man find coins registered by his mate's detector, by simply using one of the STOCK programs?

The Spectra is as capable as ANY detector on the market in the USA, to at least confirm the presence/ID of targets found by others.

Clear out any silly rejection in the +8 to +94. Motion Sensitivity to 80. TRY 22.5 kHz single frequency,,,,,,,AND PROPERLY GROUND BALANCE.

To tell this man to fiddle around with every adjustment mentioned, is unbelievable.

He obviously hasn't even the basic understanding of his detector.

If he had, he would know that no one can help him effectively without he tells the forum, just what is the basic status of his detector......Matt

I'm sure your observation has merit Kurttam, but I stand on my advise. EVERYONE should spend at least an hour over a deep target tweaking their detectors to get the best performance. The five areas of adjustment I recommended are the key adjustments for gaining DEPTH, IMHO. I am assuming he has already adjusted his Gain and Sensitivity for maximum stable operation.

I had the same problem with two V3s. Adjusted till the cows came home and never saw deeper than four inches, pinpoint depth off all the time. Mysteriously, with the old V3, all my old coils worked just fine, I could even use TX boost with the Bigfoot coil! Wow, I got lucky, all my coils could handle the power of the V3~~~~ but I still couldnt get half the depth that I had with my MXT, testing side by side.

People called me an idiot. Heck, I didn't even have to use a digging cloth or get on my knees, ever. My Lesche rusted past the 3 inch mark!

Whites replaced the detectors and I'm regularly seeing 6-8 inches easy with the stock programs tuned down, tweaking can get me more.

With the new V? Boost no longer works on any of my old coils, they overolad. They also overload pretty badly at hotter settings.

My original Visions (2) were not the same as my new ones. Same programs, same settings, wildly different performance with the same coils in the same parks and ballfields.

*edited cause I used the word he double l instead of heck...oops! :)

I agree with you Kate, if the detector is at fault, by all means get it to White's or your dealer. We were just hoping his problem might be in the settings and he would not have to send it back in, at least not during prime hunting season.

Also, DiggininPa, you might want to reset your programs back to factory specs if you have been doing a lot of adjusting. That was one of White's service complaints is that many of the early returned detectors were really messed up and once returned to factory settings, worked fine.

Larry, with great respect, I find it very frustrating that this forum's overseers have not explained to those posting their problems, the need to state their basic program and any altered settings, when seeking help.

They really do need to clearly list their operating status.

Can't you pin-up at the top of the forum, a simple down-loadable or in-situ table of the program's basic facts required, that would provide a base line upon which others could offer relative recommendations?

Just imagine being able to download his operational program...............

Or up-load your recommended settings for him to download and try.

What price progress?.........A detector of the Spectra's sophistication, without a universal communications port....????

One backwards step for Whites.......They must listen to their public, for to take away what at least was viable with the excuse of problems, is a weak admission.

This detector is too good to be 'dumb'.

I complement Whites and all involved for the majority of the upgrading functions. The Polar Plot is eagerly awaited by me.

Question to Carl:-

Will upgrading consume all the spare 'storage' capacity of the present V3?

The punch line being, does this upgrade leave any reserves for future mods?

To readers with problems......Do a few simple 'In-air' tests, with a Dime or other common coin, and add the results to your posts.

Please, any participants, don't regurgitate the old nonsense about air-tests being invalid.

No rocket ever left the launch pad, no car left the production line, no plane ever flew.......that wasn't first 'air tested.'...........TheMarshall

I have to agree that users should at least give us basic operational info..........that would be a big help in trying to help them. To get the best depth, as DiggininPa requested, I still think tweaking has to be done with their favorite program in their ground.

You have many valid points, but your system of a base-line test program will only work for some people. Some users like the Deep Silver program, others Coin and Jewelry and so on, not to mention the variations in the ground mineralization and choice of coils, swing speed and filter settings. I do recommend air testing though to see if your detector/coil is working and comparing coils. Air testing is lousy for trying to determine how deep your detector will go in the ground though.

I too hope to see a universal communications port one day and for some, it might be handy, for others it will be a nightmare. I can see great benefits downloading a problem program and having a pro analyze it and make recommendations, yet sharing a program that works for me would be no good to someone in the next state, IMO.

I'll let Carl answer your memory question, but my guess is there will be lots of free memory for all kinds of improvements. Massive amounts of memory are dirt cheap and getting cheaper by the day.

I like to run the Hi Pro program with the RX as high as it will go remaining stable. The sensitivity at 85 and the AM at 60. I run 3 frequencys at 10 high band. This is not my first detector and when I got this a year ago it was finding silver dimes at 7 to 8 inches. Yes I have the basic understanding of this detector Marshall. Yes this is a top of the line detector but I think mine may have a problem.

It sounds like you are doing the right things and if it once did better, I would be thinking about sending it back to White's and tell them it once did a lot better. I would give service a call first. Good luck.

I don't know how much memory is left, as I didn't write the software. Future mods depend on a lot of things, and right now we have no plans for another round.
