It is hard to tell by this picture, but the Nikon filter did not remove as much of the (sky) blue off of the water.

I don't know what your experience is with polarizers,
but the maximal effect on the sky will be achieved when the camera angle is at right angles to the sun.
This is a great shot, good composition and depth of field.
