Nikon Coolpix 5400 is it any good?

I just purchased the Nikon Coolpix 5400 after looking for a new camera for about 3 months, battery is still charging. It was tough to make a decision, always something a little better for just another $100, started at $400 and pretty soon I was at $1,000 and looking at $1,100 models. In the end I just threw my hands up and bought a top brand in a price point.
I do like all the manual features, I look forward to being in control after wrestling with my old point and shoot Powershot 20 for several years. It was always something with that camera, wouldn't focus, under exposed, poor white balance, etc. but there were only a few adjustments you could make.
Anyway I could still take this camera back and get something else, any opinions?

I think the best place for research on digital camera's is www.dpreview.com. I bought a Nikon 5700 a couple of years ago after doing TONS of research, mainly at the dpreview site.
Right now, I've heard nothing but GREAT reviews about their new 8700. It's 8 megapixels which seems to be a bit much to some people, but you wouldn't be sorry if you had it. That is, outside of needing bigger storage discs
Anyway, check 'em out and let us know what you went with
