night time metal detecting

cory in fla

New member
i was just curious if any one does a lot of night metal detecting on the beach and is it advisable to go with a partner or do you go just go out alone?

Yeah. If you dont have a partner go to the populated beach near houses and roads. The roads lights give you some clarity and theres always a good person near you but if you see something or someone that you think is strange... get out of there immediately, some coins or jewerly are nothing comparing to you LIFE.
And, If you go alone, go to the dry sand, sometimes the sea can be very tricky.

... what happened?

As for hunting at night, well, you are on your own. There are no cops, no beach patrol and no good samaritans to see you should trouble arise. There's a reason why the freaks come out at night!

I suggest you have a really solid scoop which you can swing like a medieval battle axe - then practice with it. Also, I would prefer to have a partner along. Each of you carry a big knife and have a cellphone at the ready.

Cory, I usually go by myself! At nitetime most of the crowd has gone except for a few beachwalkers. I like to hunt the wetsand and usually wade out into at least the 1st trough. I carry a small flashlite and a large stainless steel scoop! Always be aware of who is around you! If you are approached by a crowd or suspectious characters, one can avoid them by going into the water and distancing yourself from them! Of course, when you 1st get out at the beach, you should survey the area and make sure that it is safe to begin with!.............HH.......................Joe
