NIGHT HUNTING ? with XLT

Woodchuck

New member
Hi Ya All ! How many of you go night hunting with you XLT or such detectors and why?:please:

I do some once in a while.
No prying eyes to watch what your doing and also no blazing sun to fry you.
Only have to keep an eye out for the two legged predetors that lurk around.
Its quiet and peaceful no daytime hassels.
The XLT has the option of a lighted screen which helps.

I don't have an XLT but if I did I'd night hunt...Why ? Because I COULD !

Hey Joel thats what I'm thinking no prying eyes. But then theres that two legged factor, where I live it has second highest murder rate in state next to capital.I want to give it a try but like u said have to be carefull:nono:

Last month we had a nasty nor'easter and i wanted to be the first on the beach. I knew this one beach was closed due to erosion, but you can access it by the next beach about a 1/4 mile away. I left work at 4am and arrived at the beach around 4:20. It was pitch black. I had the DFX all set up and ready to go. I walked to the waters edge and found a target, scooped it up and I can hear it in the scoop but couldn't find it, I had gloves on, so they came off. Mine you, it was still mighty windy out, I'm holding onto the gloves,my detector and pouring the coin into my hand all at the same time. While walking along I wanted to make an adjustment on the DFX but gave up because I couldn't find the right menu for the back light. Would I do it again? you betcha!!! I found close to $29 in change, no silver though. It was great, Every step you take you had a target!! Like the saying goes " The early bird gets the worm " HH DON

United you'll have to carry a small flashlight or one that clips on to the peak of your cap for emergency use

There have been period of my life where I only had the time to hunt at night. Like the others have said, the nicest thing about it is the peacefulness.
I've hit on the ultimate combination of lighting for a night hunt. (Some of it learned on these forums.)

1. Small multi LED hat clip. (Home Depot Husky is great!)

2. Small, upward pivoting (flip up) headband multi LED lamp (Band removed and velcroed to the back of your pod.) I use a Dorcy LED brand.

3. Drilled out Leschi w/LED flashlight inserted. (Only needs to be a single LED) this small beam of directed light really shows up your find so as not to damage it. (Harbor Freight)

I don't use all the lights all the time but if you're in an area that allows for it, it's nice (and your retrieval times are as fast as in the day time). Beware of looking like a UFO landing!!!!

wish QXT had an illuminated screen. if it did i would be all over the nite hunting. might still in right situation. the peacefulness sounds really inviting.

Knowing the hot keys comes in handy after dark. Night hunting may give the only opportunity for some spots like sidewalk repairs & demo sites. But all ways keep safety on your minds. HH Joe.

The hot keys come in handy in the dark.Night hunting is great to beat the heat. Some spots only accessible at night like side walk repair sites.Back lights also work great when the little honey has my day light hours scheduled.HH Joe
