We just got a good dose of rainfall here. I noticed a difference in VDI readings on coin targets. I'm just assuming with all the water saturated in the ground, it made things a tad more sensitive than usual and put out a bigger halo effect around the coins.

I have dug 2 deep jeffersons that read in the high 70's low 80s but they were jumpy signals. I really thought i was digging a penny both times. Glad to hear im not the only one that this has happened to.

every once in a while this happens to me...one was a canadian nickle, that I remember wondering about WTH?... I've noticed when theres frost on the ground the signals are strange, and also hunting dry pebble totlots the signals can be all over the place...I just chalked it up to one of those things.

Yes, I agree the ground balance might be off. That's a red flag for me to recheck the balance. The target ID # will be off if improperly balanced. The iron discrimination is so good with the AT machines you will not know if there is any iron under the coil if you use any iron disc, you just have to be certain you balance over clean ground using no iron discrimination. And the ground balance often--several times each hour at least, sometimes every ten feet. It's so easy to do and your results will show it with the deep silver.
