Nickles and CZ's....

Dan-Pa.

New member
First and foremost a CZ is surely one of the best nickle units on the market..Second a whole lot of junk and yes even a gold ring will come in as nickle so expect to dig some junk and perhaps a gold ring along the way..For those not aware older nickles such as buffalo, V or shield due to mettalic content will come in lower than a modern Jefferson amd a war nickle will come in much higher..If your looking for older nickles with a convential CZ you may get a foil to nickle bounce on an old nickle so be aware of the foil facet. On the newest CZ3D simply use the advanced mode as its predicated for older nickles.
Seems to be a lot of confusion lately on nickles so perhaps the above will help..Incidentially also a mighty deep machine on silver and old coins..

Good post Dan. I would like to add that, in my experience, a 3D in advanced mode will not register a modern nickel as a nickel at all. Its two different modes really does make it two different machines.

I just tested a 2005 nickel and in enhanced mode it reads round tab, in an air test.A 1964 nickel read as a nickel in enhanced mode. I usually detect in the salt mode and double check in enhanced.Something Id better remember next time out:)))

I usually run in salt mode in an area still in use where I don't generally expect old stuff. Any place else, I use advanced mode.
