NICKELS

patch

Member
I WAS GIVEN A DEMONSTRATION OF THE M-6,THE CLASSIC-5,AND THE PRISM-5.IF YOU KNOCK OUT THE PULLTABS ON ALL THREE MACHINES,YOU CAN STILL PICK UP NICKELS ON THE CLASSIC,AND THE PRISM,BUT NOT THE M-6.I KNOW THE M-6 IS A LOT BETTER MACHINE.CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME? THANK YOU.

You can't eliminate the tabs without losing the nickle on the M6.. But most use the disc. to just eliminate small iron and foil.. The VDI for tabs is 22-26 on my M6 .. I don't dig them.. (but i do occasionally just to assure myself..) I use the seven tone, set mine to either 0 disc. and run, or just below nickels in trashy ground so that I hear everything above 0 VDI.. Nickels come in solid 16-20VDI mostly 18 and 20.. Tabs are not a problem..

[size=medium]By that mean that the discrimination wasn't set up in a similar manner. Both he Matrix M6 and the Classic 5-ID feature a variable discriminate control that adjusts from a minimum rejection level up through a point that knocks out screw caps and zinc cent, and a little higher. The Prizm 5, on the other hand, doesn't allow for a fine-tune adjustment of the Disc. setting, instead relying on a factory-set 'segment' of rejection.

With the Prizm 5 you can set it to "notch," or selectively-reject, a segment of conductive targets that are ABOVE that 5

Hello Monte:
Nice to hear from you again.
On my MXT I can keep the toggel switch in the forward position, knock out SOME pull tabs and still get my nickels. Does the M6 have that feature?

[size=medium]that's fine with me. I am not a big fan of notch discrimination, especially when the operator doesn't have ample control of it. With the MXT, the factory preset 'notch' rejection encompasses a range of tabs, mainly some of the older-style tabs, so that you still get a hit on 5

HUmmmm. Interesting point!
I was out today and believe me a dug a zillion pull tabs and not one was close
to being a RING!!! may next time. Did find a cheap stainless steel watch though!

There are some new pulltabs that read solid multiple scanned 18-20 on the M6 VDI. I have found some, on top of the ground and just under the grass that read 18 and 20.

But mostly pulltabs do read numbers 22-26.

I've dug very few pull tabs with the M6 recently because pull tabs generally jump around in the VDI range. Most of the nickels/gold rings I have found with the M6 were rock solid on the VDI. In fact, the few pull tabs that I have dug recently were only dug because they were also rock solid on one VDI number.
