Nickels

I seem to be having trouble distinguishing between nickels and tabs. If anyone could tell me any "tricks" to telling the two apart, I would sure appreciate it. I pretty much always hunt in iron mask -8. Usually, I'll switch to digital and check to see if it reads 6, that is about the only thing I know to tell the difference. Thanks in advance for the tips.

I've found in my first day of use after digging a couple of nickels, and my first Buffalo BTW, I can only tell the difference by using digital as you are doing. The only difference is all my nickels in the field and air testing gave a very repeatable 7 instead of 6. Maybe just a difference in detectors.
Tabs were often 8.
Not much help but thought I'd pass that on.

hey rainman,
seems nickles and them pull tabs are really close. if i get a dead on 5 that doesnt jump to 6 and back to 5 its a nickle.
i still believe who ever invented them pull tabs should be shot.lol

In learn mode I deleated out the pulltabs very carefully using the small curser and the X1 Probe. It seems to have worked. I'm still getting nickles but not the tabs. This is hunting in the smartscreen mode. HH-Coinshooter65

Well, I tested the Jefferson nickels again and it seems I was wrong. I'm getting 5 to 6 on these and 7's on the Buffalo.
Just wanted to tell you as I would consider digging 7's and leaving 8's.

on my machine 6 is nichols and buffalo's read 5
