Nickels

I have a yearly goal of reaching 500 nickels. For the last 3 years (that's yrs 13. - 14. - 15) I've met or exceeded the 500. Now for those 3 years I've averaged one gold ring per 130 nickels. Machines I use, nickels, gold rings, some tabs, lerk real close. I just dug my 103 nickel yesterday without a gold so maybe I'm getting close. Guys who mostly beach hunt probably got to average something else. Hey, when I get that nickel sound or number, well until I dig it, Im thinking Ring. (My little thrill)
You know you can find gold nowhere, or anywhere. This past winter I beach/ wade hunted for two months , no gold. Than in the past 3 years I've eyeballed a gold and detected two nice ones within 5"-6" of Little League outfield fences. So go figure.

That's a lot of patience's you have, that's why your finding gold rings and I'm not. So many pull tabs in this area it drives me crazy.

I love to get that nickel sound on my detector, even if it is a nickel. I have been digging pull tabs and nickels for about 15 years, I have about 200 gold rings. I have only got 3 this year, but have 8 silver. I like those too. Got a 1835 Large Cent last nigh. Oh and one silver ring. I don't think people are wearing gold like they did 2 or 3 years ago. Hard times has hit everyone. GOOD LUCK WITH RING COUNT. hope you get 100 or more.

What kind of hunting environment produces 200 gold rings in 15 years? You a beach hunter, urban park hunter?

Hi . berryman, I am a park hunter. I lived in Columbus Ohio for about 21 years and all the people had to do on there days off was go to the parks. If you live in a big city, hunt the parks. that is where most of your rings will come from. Just make sure you dig all that trash. I still get up there once in awhile but they have a detecting club there now and it is harder to find anything good. Do you live in a big town? Hit those parks and dig that trash.
