Introduced my nephew to the exciting hobby of metal detecting. He is 7. We found a lot of junk and 2 nickels. Needless to say he was hooked.
We got a strong signal and found beer caps. On a very strong signal he eagerly drove the scoop in the sand and hit a bottle, smashing it. We picked up all the glass and found more buried bottles. Apparently the result of a little beach party. Gladly he was not hurt with the flying glass from his over zealous driving of the scoop. We moved on and found a fishing hook with 3 gold colored beads on it. I though that was curious and will look closer later.
Happy hunting

it's amazing that people don't carry the lighter, empty bottles to a trashcan after carrying the heavy full ones to the beach, always p's me off. The hook has the beads as an attractant, for flash. probly not gold, but congrats for getting your nephew interested.
