Nickels, pull tabs, etc.

From what I'm noticing, nickels, some pulltabs, and some bottle caps all have the same tone, and show up on the smart screen in the same place. Do you all have a tell-tale way of distinguishing nickels from the rest of the aluminum and other junk signals? With my sovereign, any reading of 143-145 on the Sunray was almost surely a nickel...

It's tough on the smart screen to tell the difference. There is an audio difference but it takes awhile to learn it. Try going to digital to train your ear. On digital nickles will hit at 5 almost everytime. Pull tabs will almost always hit 6 or 7 unless they are broken in half. After a while you'll learn the sound.

The smart screen isn't that smart and sometimes is completely wrong. Much better to rely on sounds. Make sure varability and limits are set at 10.

You wrote on the forum conserning separtating nickels from pulltabs etc. Most
experienced and successful detectorist do not hesitate to dig ALL repeatable
signals! There are two reasons for this: First, gold comes in at the pull tab range.
Second, when there are two or more metals close together, the meter readings
average out to some really weird readings. These reasons are true regardless of
what brand of detector is being used.
Good luck.. unless you are cherry picking due to a time constraint.... dig all
repeatable signals... If you discriminate, I guarrantee you will leave a lot of coins and gold objects.
