Nickels and the 3030

Tried Ferrous Coin in the water today and I don't know if that had anything to do with it or I just found a line with nickels .... but I got 26 nickels in 6 hours...that is a personal record for one hunt for me... I also managed to pick up two gold rings along with more clad..Soldier ring is 10k 5.9grams with two diamonds (really small) the other ring is 14k 2.4 grams. Really starting to get the feel for the 3030 and liking it more and more with each trip out.

I've only had my CTX for a few days, but, I can agree that it is hell on pull-tabs and nickels!.....and DEEP ones, to boot!!

The 3030's sound is so very distinctive on nickels that you know every time its a nickel rather that a pop top, this is partly due to the fact you have so much information available to you. Many times you'll find nickels along beaches that out number any other coin simply because the previous hunter/hunters discriminated out the nickels so he/she did not have to dig pull tabs pop tops. We refer to these type hunters as skimmers which we love to see running down the beaches. They will pull 1000's of nuisance coins from the beach leaving the deep gold/platinum targets along with nickels. Should you find this when your hunting you just need to slow down and dig the gold left behind.

As far as the CTX goes, I'm a newbie. I've only had my CTX a month and before that I had an E-Trac.

I was never able to find any old nickels with the E-Trac. But, the fourth time that I had the CTX out, I got a nickel signal from about six inches down.

I dug it and it was a 1900 V Nickel.

up they come in 12-14 for me too...and I got 2 war nickels that came in 11-16 this weekend

Last year with a White's DFX I found a grand total of 24 nickels. This year between my ETrac and CTX I've found about 360. I set my nickel bin on the CTX the same tone as my silver bin and my count has really shot up. I just got back from a short hunt today and found 10 nickels.
