Nicer Environmental Covers

Canewrap

New member
I was struggling to get the stock environmental covers off my machines tonight so I could take the batteries out and it occurred to me that someone must be making nicer covers with velcro closures for these machines. Does anyone have any contact info or prices?

TIA,
Bill W.

Yeah, your local grocery store or walmart. A box of 35 ziplock quart size freezer bags. About $3.00 to $4.00 a box.

I'm sorry, but I can't see the since in spending the $10 to $15 bucks for a environmental cover, when it may only last me for about a month. The freezer bags are easier to get on an off and it does a good job at protecting the unit.

Like G4E and Mark said, plastic bags work OK. But if you are looking for a cordura cover, custom made for the X-Terra, Thesaurusaccessories sells aftermarket covers for the X-Terras. If you do a google search for Thesaurusaccessories you will find their online auction site. (won't mention the "e" word here) Here is a link I posted a little over a year ago with a couple pics. I don't know what the current price or exchange rate is. I think in my original post I said $50. But at the time, one of the guys who ordered one said it was about $40 US, shipped.

Bill,
I ordered a cover from Kellyco along with my new 705 and it is a nice roomy fit. It slipped right on with room to spare. Minelab must have made the new ones larger.

I have used the enviroment cover now for 2 years. They are well made, but very tight. I hace thought about going to a seamstriss type place to hav the battery compartment side cut out in flap form. Then have them put some velcro on the flap and the cover. Might still do it. I also usee the baggies when it is misting out or raining a bit, Beale.

Thanks KR, I'll have to see about ordering one from KCo, I have the ones provided with the machine and they are tight.

And although it works as planned, it could have used a little more professionalism in the "arts and crafts" deparment. Here is a link with the pics. HH Randy http://www.findmall.com/read.php?55,702800,702899#msg-702899

Where's the shampoo??

They do ! I got rid of that tight factory cover and I use sandwich bags. You can buy a lot of sandwich bags for the cost of one of those enviormental covers. When you slip the new sandwich bag on, push your earphone jack through the baggie and it will not come off until you unplug the earphone jack. I replace the baggie when it gets torn or skuffed.

Well guys its funny you mention the cover as I feel the same and actually have been thinking about a design I think will work better than the factory covers, the advantage of being a mom is I also am pretty handy with a sewing machine and plan on coming up with a prototype this winter while im stuck in the house, at least its still detecting related and keeps me motivated. I will let you know how it goes, get your opinions and maybe take a few orders! Ill try to have something in a couple weeks.

If you can come up with something, I'll get in line. I would prefer to buy one from someone that understood how the cover should work. Let us know when you've worked it. Thanks.

Ok im going to get started this weekend, this should be pretty easy compared to the cover I made for my Whites control box years ago, which was very complex given that it had knobs and was vertical on the stem.

After reading the above post I compaired my cover for the the X-70 with my partners cover for the X-705. While my cover is very tight and hard to remove the new cover for the X-750 is larger and very easy to removed for battery replacement.
