Nicely made & I found a pair of them...But I have not a clue as to what it is....

These are from a old park that has a history going back to 1870's...and they were rather deep . I found the 1st one & then my next target about 5 fett away was the matching mirror image-a left & right.

I know they were mounted to leather as there is remnants of some on one of the brads-I'm guessing saddle guards?. They do have very faint marks-Arrow Smith -with an arrow going through the lettering & trade above & mark below. I did my best google search on Arrow/smith etc...but got nothing close.

So-Anyone??

Looks like thats it, taz. It was also patented a few years before that in 1903.

I cannot find ANY examples online except for the patents. Are they that rare or maybe nobody bothered to post any pictures or even so much as reference them?

Nice finds!

Rare and you have a pair...might be worth something to a medical museum...

And as a foot pain sufferer-I now see what the adjustable leaf & small platform design were designed for. Very cool guys-Thanks again...

I am heading back like-now-just about to put on boots with gel insoals. The spot is getting an all metal workover. These were a very lucky find-in a metal debris patch about 5 feet apart-at 10" or better. I was using my Tesoro Silver U-max with a GB adjustor-cranked till its fairly noisy but the depth is what got these...

I have found horseshoe's with mud cleats & some very used tools at this site-Times were tough back then, men & animals put thier blood & sweat into the soil. I can only imagine what it was like but it is very cool to find a portion of thier past.

Thanks again-great links/documentation!

I would save that newspaper page if I were you. Its a nice representation for the pieces you found. Those are really cool finds.

Also, good work finding the old newspaper, Taz. I gave up my online search with only 1 decent result. :|
