nice yankee button recovered.

hello all, olddigger and i went out for a short while last weekend to 50 new acres of private land next to the petersburg national battlefield. i'd been trying to get directions and permission for a couple of weeks and finally got it! i had done a quick exploratory hunt there the day before to see if ANYTHING was there. i turned up an old suspender buckle, a piece of lead sabot, and a couple of wheat cents. good signs. we'd be back.
next day, i recovered this nice yankee button. it's an oddball, like most of the stuff i find. the waterbury button co. backmark with one star is raised and very small, and in the inner ring by the shank. there's a small push about the eagle's head. but hey, i'll take it!
it's getting hard to find buttons of any type anymore. i could tell others had been there by the uncovered holes - don't that just burn you up? the button cleaned up well with olive oil and a fine brass brush. these are before and after pics. thanks for looking and reading, and hh,
