Jellyfish.
From Monday mornings high tide hunt. The Gulf was pancake flat, gin clear and this 9.6g 14k CrownRing was the best of it,.. coins, junk toe ring, split shot and trash were the rest. Nice day to be out and besides it being so calm...schools are back in session so there are very few beach goers to contend with. I was pretty sure the ring was a good one, but could not see a mark of any kind inside. Even after getting home I was so sure there was no mark that I just did the acid test and got the reassurance that it was 14k, a little later with the loop I saw the markings that are laser etched instead of the traditional stamped making it really hard to see.
You might think I was using the DF with all the trash, (note the big microwave donut magnet in the scoop that gets the pins, iron, crab trap pieces and bottle caps that I pocket after it gets too cluttered) but I have yet to do the PP mod on the Xcal, so I hunt in PP and only after a scoop or two do I switch to disc to see if I should continue. Three years with the DF makes digging just something I'm used to, but after the summer ends and things slow down the Xcal will go in for PP and Headphone mod along with new O-rings. GL ALL
* I do like having a magnet in my scoop, especially when using the DF. It catches and holds all the pins and small iron, so if I see nothing in the scoop and scan the hole and shake I know the magnet did its job and move on.
** I also like the handle portion that goes all the way down in my Stealth scoop, It helps divide the contents which are mostly light shell after the shakeout. So when I push down in the water to move every thing the lighter stuff goes to one side leaving the heavy rings or coin on the other, but If there is no ring or coin you still have to go through the shells to find that tab.
