Man I was so in your shoes when I first took mine out. I could not understand the overwhelming amount of noise, targets and display changes. I found after around a week of thinking my detector was bad where all my underground power wires where located. This was causing an overwhelming amount of false signals. It took a couple of months and much encouragement to reap the rewards that come with the v3i.....

Stick with it and dont be afraid to ask questions.:detecting:

Lower the RX a little and turn tone ID off. Maybe take the time to set 4 tones. Stay off HiPro or any mixed mode until you're more comfortable... but I think turning off tone ID will really help you. Maybe raise the recovery speed, somewhere around 45-50 and try shifted tone. That way you gan get two tones, one low and one high... ferrous/non-ferrous. Also remember to set the freq offset as described in Larrys post at the top.

Test your coil using the method in the post at the top.

You might benefit from using locktrac and setting the GB just slightly positive. A GB that is too negative will cause falsing and the autotrac may let it go negative if it isn't set right. If you use loctrac you can always check it often if the ground is changing.

Another thing you can do that I bet will help you learn is to go into the library and load the "coins" program. It runs the disc sens a little lower (80 I think) and that helps... but I am pretty sure the main thing that is confusing you is the tone ID.
