I set out with the 5x8 coil in a picnic area built by the CCC during the depression. I think this is the most neglected and trashiest piece of municipal land I have detected. In past years I have found a couple of wheat cents and a little silver, usually I come home with an interesting bottle or two rather than much in coinage. I got real excited when I got solid quarter hit with no rolling of the tone. A colonial era shoe buckle frame, copper with trace signs of having been silver plated.
This find has been on my wish list this year, I have many small fragments, some solid silver but finding one this complete really pleases me. I did locate nearby what may be the remnants of an old stone wall that was probably rubble and used for the fire pits when the are was created for picnicking.
Gotta love this hobby, sport, passion or however you classify what we do!
