It rained a good soaking rain here yesterday, so I went out this morning to an old park. It was overcast, but the rain was supposed to hold off until afternoon. I went to an old picnic grove which has some big oaks. About a week ago I found a 1942 Merc here. I found a little clad and four wheats (all 1950s), then chatted a bit with a guy walking his dog. He had the usual questions, and seemed interested. He left, wishing me good luck, and not ten minutes later I got a perfect silver signal, no doubt about it. Hitting from all four directions, and at the right depth. Dug down about seven inches and found the 1877 seated quarter. I could see the date but not the mintmark because of dirt, and I didn't clean it in the field, hoping it might be a "CC". Turned out be a no mintmark.
After digging the quarter, I decided to quit (after double checking the hole for more signals). Total time was a little over two hours. The quarter looks to be maybe XF, much better than my previous seated quarter (1878 ). No seated dimes yet for me.
