nice evening in the cornfield

Me and the guys are always driving around with old maps looking for old sites. Had our eye on this one where 2 old houses once stood in 1866 but are now a corn field. Corn was harvested and Mark got us permission to hit it and we waited til evening as it's been very hot and muggy. We had a great hunt and found some nice relics. We wanted to go back tonight but were hit by some thunder storms so we will try asap before it get spread with manure. I found an 1858 Canadian Large Cent, seems it's the first year of that one is valuable..lol.. but not this one...drat!!! Always one thing away from a valuable find but that's just not what it's really all about. I also got a little shield and wonder what that could have been. Maybe someone will know or maybe I'll never know. Such are the mysteries of detecting. Here's some pics and a link to the video i worked on today.
Mike found a Crotal bell, a thin possible large cent (we still can't make it out yet), a buckle and a cross. Mark got 2 musket balls and his first Indian Head Penny. A fine outing indeed.

I've done a lot of field hunting for CW relics but not much for coins, but would like to do more. Have you had good luck in the fields themselves, or mainly in the areas you know to be around the house sites? thanks

What state do you live in that your corn is already harvested? The corn on our farm here in Michigan won't be harvested for another month or so. Nice finds!

Great hunt . . . like the finds you pulled out and I am sure there is more to find

Congratulations

I live south of Buffalo, NY so we are a bit south of you but not by a lot. I think we have a special strain of corn that is very sweet that harvests early and one town near here, Eden, NY, has a corn festival coming up soon. the rest of the corn comes in a little later and then the cow corn comes in later than that.
