but with the undercurrent of the river going out and the tide coming in it was a little rough to stand still. If you notice there were hardly any people in the water for that reason.

It sure was funny seeing all those dry sanders milling around together in front of the concession stand like a bunch of pigeons. What were they hoping to find, a couple of quarters?
Oh well, it just means there is less competition for the good stuff in the water.

I'm okay with that!

BDA, where do you find most of your loot? Deep water, neck deep, knee deep, ankle deep or what. Just curious due to those tiger sharks. Tigers sharks would scare the living _ _ _ _ out of me.

I often start looking over my shoulder at dusk when I'm in the deeper water. Dusk is feeding time for most fish and sharks are no exception.
Statistically they are a non-issue but in the mind's eye they are pretty disconcerting.
As for what depth do I find most of my loot at the answer is just a little more than waist deep. Some of my best finds have been shoulder deep though and this weekends hunt was a bust until I moved in to knee deep water and then I started getting hits. Just like hunting for wild game, metal detecting requires you to adapt to the environment and conditions in order to be successful. As you will hear so often on this forum "If your coil doesn't go over the target then no gold for you".
